Hope you are having a regular Thursday!
I’m chugging along (consistently exhausted) and learning how to draw patterns on the computer because that’s industry standard and I have more material things I want to make for you all. There are a lot of steps and a lot of softwares to help a person bring their clothing ideas to life. This is a random one that my dad sent me that also has a two-week free trial. It’s called Clo3d.
Scary, terrifying, absolutely insane. Based on these images, this 3D design software looks like a sexy ai fashion machine. And so instead of being scared of it, I have decided to learn how to use it! Wield the power! And try not to die!!
I’m definitely not a how-to content kinda guy nor a dumb blonde kinda dude (it’s more of an angry / sad dynamic ) so I’ll spare you the unfinished tech jokes on this one. But this blog is about clothes and design and tomfoolery, so I will share with you my thought process in the design research phase:
Now now now, I have a tool, but what to make?
something mythical, no free ideas.
baseball uniform
think character, character, SHREK, no
This is the theater, so we’re doing Chicago.
1920s,
post war - rise of the consumer oriented economy, FUN! Let’s talk about what I want. also known as “spending beyond your means,” lol.
first public radio broadcast - cars, radios, telephones for the first time - mass technology boom
women’s: right to vote
men’s: high waisted, fitted pants
Hats
vests
hot rodent summer
Look at these suits for twinks. Green belt is going to murder me in my sleep. The babydoll waistline, outrageous!
Also the color palette of these prints are so gorgeous. Am going to steal the grey/green/orange combo, thank you very much.
As it goes,
if we were still talking about Chicago the Musical,
the idea would be to design the outfits for each character in the show which is probably upwards of a hundred separate fits, right? I am not going to be making so many three piece suit patterns on this fancy ai machine.
I will make one ai 1920s three piece suit. If that’s unrealistic, I will make one man wearing a necktie t-shirt and and some dickies shorts. Will someone please tell me why my gut never picks the easy thing?
Anyway, that’s the goal. I’ll take this idea somewhere. Debatably. Or it might be left here forever. Would be kind of sick to put on a staged version of Chicago…
Thank you for being here!!
ps. Oh look we made it to episode 310 of the newsletter! the number ten! What a great place to take a break. And a great segue…
I’m taking a few weeks off the regular schedule to figure out some life stuff, but whether you like it or not, I will be back.
Maybe a surprise visit in the meantime.
Okay I must go now, you all are the light of my life.
xx Carson
